Welcome Center Landscape

Welcome Center AfterAfter improving the Park entrance roads and revitalizing the Kiosk, it was clear that the last phase of the “Welcome to Caumsett” plan would be to improve the landscape surrounding the new Park Office, Kiosk, Café and Shed Seating. In addition to improving the aesthetics, the Caumsett Foundation’s goal was to separate the pedestrian and vehicular traffic and to create a dust-free, safe and handicapped-accessible path to the buildings while retaining the historic nature of the Dairy Barn Complex. Now the space has a pleasing hardscape of Belgian blocks and handicapped-friendly concrete aggregate walkways, softened by native plants and shrubs.

Funding for these projects has come from a New York State grant, the Marion O. and Maximillian E. Hoffman Foundation and the Caumsett Foundation. A special thank you to the Hargraves family for underwriting the new composite benches, chairs and tables outside the Café seating area.
